Lingcod for Anderson party
|
After reading my fishing reports for years on Salmon University Bill Anderson decided to go fishing with me and find out if I really knew anything about fishing Puget Sound. Immediately upon Bill arriving late the B S started and never stopped till he walked away at 11:30 with fillets of lingcod for each one of them. Although the conditions for fishing were less than ideal, with south winds at Possession causing 3 foot waves and higher at times, the fish were cooperative and with the first pass they caught and landed a double. Backing the boat into those waves and maintaining an accurate drift is difficult to say the least but with a couple more drifts they caught two more lingcod and it was limits and let’s get the hell out of here. Bill wanted to make sure I posted the pictures and stated how good of a fisherman he is in spite of my lack of expertise on fishing Puget Sound. “HA HA” The one thing we can agree on is that you can tell when a fisherman is lying and that is when his lips are moving or he is typing.

Sunday afternoon Savage party with their lingcod
|
The hot ticket has been live bait fished on Possession Bar for lingcod.
Several of the rocky holes and ledges that I discovered many years ago are producing again this year. The best bite has been one to two hours before the tide change.
The Sand Dabs are very plentiful at South East Hat and have moved into 70 feet of water.

John Hjort with lingcod
|
After being friends all these years and working on fishing committees together for the benefit of recreational fishermen, my good friend and colleague John Hjort goes fishing on my boat for lingcod. John has a very fine Grady White boat in Edmonds Harbor and knows how to catch fish along with the best of them, but on this day he and another of his friends Joe, come along with me to catch lingcod. The action was very good with one oversize and a couple other releases and a limit for all five people on the boat. Catching Sandabs for bait and fishing them alive along the rocky structure on Possession Bar has been the hot ticket.
