King salmon catches take off.
|
King salmon fishing perks with hatchery kings coming on board in nice size and numbers. As the spring salmon season draws to a close on April 30 the Springer’s are arriving daily. Unfortunately there are only a few days left, but these fish will still be around when June 2 comes around and we can fish the Tulalip Bubble for them.

spring chinook are here
|
Salmon fishing remains open till the 30th of April As this fishery draws to a close there are some nice fish to be had. Fish into the high 20lb range were caught this past week. Best place has been the Tulalip Bubble or Columbia Beach. Most people are catching their fish on coyote spoons, but some are using squid and flasher. Target the 90 to 120 foot of water, fish the gear from 70 feet down to the bottom.
This is the last week of this first ever winter selective Chinook salmon fishing as the salmon fishing closes on Sunday the 30th of April. Area 8.1 and Area 8.2 winter selective fishing will return again this fall starting on October 1.
The Tulalip Bubble summer salmon fishing opens on June 2 this year with the same regulations as last year. Open all day Friday, Saturday, Sunday and till noon on Monday of each week. Limit is 2 Chinook over 22 inches fin clipped or not Very important this summer fishery is not restricted to fin clipped fish only, as all Chinook over 22 inches are legal in this special fishery.
Lingcod fishing opens May 1

Jim gets a nice blackmouth
|
As the bite was extremely early the past couple days I elected to call the clients and get them on the dock early and off to the fishing grounds. We met at o dark thirty and quickly departed towards useless bay and the hot early fishing bite. Well fish being fish and biting when they darn well please; there wasn’t a single bite until 9:30 Am. So much for getting everyone up early! Jim did get a very nice Blackmouth and Patty got a good one later, but that was it for the day. Sunday was better with 3 fish.

young Forest shows off a nice 13lb Blackmouth
|
Although it was suppose to be windy the weather man missed this one the right way, as we took off from the Everett Marina in flat calm water and were able to fish under excellent conditions till after 9Am The blackmouth were cooperating as soon as we arrived on the fishing grounds. With in 15 minutes we had our first keeper landed and one other hook up that escaped. We went 2 landed for our first 5 hook ups and I was thinking this is going to one of those days where the fish win the battle.
The bite continued on and off for a full 2 hours and we ended the day with 6 legal fish landed and 3 hook ups that escaped.
Biggest fish was a nice 31 inch 13lb blackmouth

Blackmouth salmon continue to bite at Useless Bay. A great couple from California and two nice guys from Montana take advantage of the good fishing to all take home a nice plump blackmouth each. As an added bonus the Grey whales were spotted on the way back to the dock and we stopped to watch them blow and dive a couple times.

Blackmouth continue to bite
|
Salmon fishing remains good around Possession and Double Bluff The winds have made it hard to get to the favorite fishing grounds on some days, but when the weather is good so is the fishing. Friday was a great example of how enjoyable it can be to have calm water and boy did the fish bite. Caught and released 9 blackmouth and retained 4 select fish up to 10 lbs

Blackmouth bite remains good
|
Wandel family enjoys a great blackmouth fishing trip! After trying Columbia beach for one pass and not so much as a bite, we take off for useless bay and Double bluff, As soon as we put our gear in the water the center downrigger line jerks and “fish On” is the cry, after a admirable fight Tom lands a nice 8 lb Blackmouth. No more than 15 minutes later the Port Downrigger springs into action and another nice Blackmouth is netted. Then about another 20 minutes and we get bites on first the Starboard rigger, the center rigger and the Port rigger all in less than a 5 minute span and we loose all three fish. so it is fish 3 and fishers 2 at that point. Wouldn’t you know it the bite stops and we go for an hour before the Starboard rigger takes the tell tale bounce of a salmon jerking on the lure and waiting for a fisherman to jerk on the other end. This one gets landed and we are 3 for six, not bad, but we still need at least one more for a fish a piece for the customers. Well after another hour and lots of searching I decide to try deep water and that is where we find the last customer fish and one for me for dinner. Back to the dock by 12:30 with 5 keeper blackmouth

even gals from Australia catch salmon
|
The weather was cool and wet, but that does not stop use from fishing here in the North West. As we departed the dock in a steady downpour with fog hiding the island and surrounding mountains it was a full on study in Radar and GPS navigation, but with the very good equipment that I have everyone was quickly confident that we would find the fishing location and be safe in doing so. It took us an hour to reach the Double Bluff area which was flat calm and looked extremely fishy when we arrived. With a little instruction we got all the Downriggers hooked up and lowered to the preferred fishing depths. There was good sign on the fish finder, but the salmon weren’t very interested in our lures. After about a half hour the Port downrigger sprang into action with a very solid bite and hookup, but the fish came off within a minute so it is fish one and fishers none. It was almost another hour before the starboard rod hooked a fish; this one was landed and kept, a respectful fish of 24 inches. Then almost within minutes the center rod went off and another good fish came to the boat. That was it for the day thought as the wind started blowing and we got no other salmon. 2 keeper salmon and one escapee.
